Subaru Cup Weekend

June 28, 2010

Last year, my mom brought me out to do this race. My mom seemed to enjoy herself and I was pleased that she wanted to come along and again be the mom-of-all-trades. She does everything from make me egg salad and bran muffins to back massages and the all important bottle and gu feeds.

I guess you could say that the last two years have been mother- son weekends at this race for us. It is great how much my mom has learned over the past years about mtb racing. I could not see my mom hanging at the races if I wasnt racing, but she truly loves being around the people invloved with the sport.

We pre-rode on friday and I was really happy with the layout and course design. The only person that I know was involved with set-up was Porter Million, but the whole WORS staff did a A+ job. Everyone I talked to really liked the course, which is not usually the case.

Jump to race day. Having the race start at 3 was actually beneficial because I was able to eat two full meals instead of just a big breakfast and snacks. It was a little intimidating, but a cool experience to be sandwhiched between the fastest midwest guys and the Pros at the start of the xc. I had a good start position and was able to not loose many spots on the furious start. By the third lap, I was pretty tired and was hoping the pace would slow. Nope! Luckily my mom was spot on with the feeds and I stayed well fueled. Like clockwork, I took one 20oz. bottle of water and 1 gu every lap.

On the last lap I lost two spots on the single track climb through the woods. Full suspension top fuel was ideal for the course which was tight, but fast and had some rough sections that made my friends that rode hardtails sore.

Results. from XC.

Short track was a “hurricane of pain.” Super D was a blast and was able to go in a heat with super D national champ lars ellefson and Adam Craig. Those two events completed a great weekend!

I feel bad, but there are absoultly no pictures of my mom, who made this weekend great for me. Thanks mom (if you read this)!

ME and Greg Carpenter chilling in our robes.

lets see if I can name everyone! from the left. Jenna, Chloe, TJ, jack, Kayla, cricket, kerry, Eric, last guy (forgot his name but he goes to Saint Scholastica)

It was great to have Garrot hang with us for much of the weekend. He won the Cat1 Short Track! He totally played the field and made it look easy.

We were rooting for Rebecca in her first Pro race. She was top ten for much of the race and did awesome.

Trying not to hit the posts in STXC!
